A Carletonville High School learner has become an international modelling sensation in less than a year.
Last year, the Herald reported that Cynthia Machava was one of only eight models worldwide and the only South African to be part of the international fashion magazine Vogue’s Open Casting Class of 2023. Vogue holds this global competition to find a new generation of models.
According to Cynthia’s mother, Mrs Thandi Mabe-Machava, this gave her career a huge boost and international work has started rolling in for her since then.
“For one of the shoots, she had to take a flight with the crew from Paris to Dakar,” her mother says.
Her photos appear in this month’s edition of the Madame Figaro magazine. She also made it onto the front page of the Elle France and Envols magazines and into the international Marie Claire, Glazia and Ibeautemx magazines.
She also did big photo shoots for the Frankie shop in Paris, France, and for the local designers Malondie and Thobeka Mbane.
Cynthia is a born and bred Carletonville resident who attended Laerskool Jongspan before Callies. She only started modelling in 2020 and won the Miss Carletonville title the following year before winning numerous other titles. She is currently an officially-signed model for the international Ford Models agency.
