Young swimmers excel at galas

Elites Swimming Club members show their skill.

Young swimmers from Elites Swimming Club from Carletonville excelled at two big galas elsewhere in the province recently.

Some of the swimmers took part in the Level 1 Developmental Swimming Gala at Pimville Indoor Swimming Pool in Soweto on Sunday, 25 February. The event was hosted by Central Gauteng Aquatics (CGA) and the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation. The swimmers also participated in a Learn to Swim (LTS) Gala held in Toekomsrus in Randfontein on Saturday, 24 February.

This event was hosted by Marine’s swimming team and the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation who partnered with the Department of Sport at the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM).Club coach Winfrey Nambuya, who has been excited by the improvements the young swimmers have been making, says she is very pleased with their excellent performance at the developmental Galas.

The swimmers placed as follows in their various age categories in Pimville: Michaela Mandzana (8) received a third place in the 25m pool noodle race. Karabo Tau (8) came first in the 25m pool noodle event and received third place for the 25m kickboard.Madison Frazer (11) took first place in the 25m freestyle and 25m breaststroke and came second for the 25m backstroke.Zoe Motale (12) received second place in the pool noodle and second place in the breaststroke event.

Zed Motale (12) came first in the 25m pool noodle race.Malik Ty Sekate (12) came second in the 25m freestyle race. Dustin Pienaar (15) received second place in the 50m freestyle event.Miso Matanzima (16) came first in the 25m freestyle and 25m backstroke events.Rory Frazer (17) took first place in the 25m freestyle and 25m backstroke events.Kahlell Taylor (17) took first place in the 25m freestyle and second place in the 25m backstroke events.

Jayden Katsvamutima (10) and Oratile Katsvamutima (12) participated in the 25m kickboard and freestyle events in Toekomsrus at Randfontein.
