Extra help with EMS emergencies

In serious emergencies during peak times, residents needing ambulances want to keep extra numbers on hand.

“During peak times, be patient and hold on, as the system may queue calls,” says the Gauteng Gauteng Emergency Services (EMS) district manager in the West Rand Mr Jurgens Bence. When reaching out to the control centre, continue holding until your call is answered.

The call taker will furnish you with a reference number, crucial for follow-up or escalation. All calls are recorded to ensure quality assurance.

In cases of issues or escalation when life-threatening emergencies are not attended to within 30 minutes, contact the shift leader with the reference number.

The contact numbers for shift leaders in various areas around Merafong are Carletonville – 073 177 0978, Fochville – 060 589 5202 or 060 589 5207, Wedela – 081 021 0711 and Khutsong – 073 145 2431.

For further escalation during office hours and emergencies after hours, contact base managers. Readers can also reach out to the responsible station manager in their area for concerns or service delivery problems.

The contact numbers for the base managers are Carletonville – Mr MD Rasekete 071 604 5664, Khutsong – Mrs NR Thai 082 964 8842, Fochville – Mr LJ Tlisane 078 019 1325 and Wedela – Mrs VP Loliwe 081 060 9486

If issues persist or station managers are unavailable, residents can contact the district manager at 082 889 6874 or via email at Jurgens.Bence@gauteng.gov.za. Compliments and complaints regarding the Gauteng EMS Service can be reported to the EMS 24-hour complaints line at 011 564 2235.
