Work at new cemetery proceeding fast

Soon there will be enough space for burials again.

The new cemetery for the Fochville and Kokosi area should be completed by the end of next month.

Fochville residents recently notified the Herald that this project, which only started a few months ago, seems to be proceeding much faster than most other municipal projects. This new cemetery is situated next to the current Fochville graveyard but closer to Fochville.

The Herald asked the Merafong City Local Municipality about this project. According to the acting municipal marketing and communications manager, Ms Nomonde Mahube, the project includes the construction of four-metre-wide block-paved access roads, stormwater management, installation of concrete palisade fencing and the construction of a guardhouse, office block and a new ablution block. The project should be completed by 31 October 2023.
The project is being implemented because the existing cemetery will soon reach capacity, and more space is needed for burials.

“A turnkey contractor is implementing the project. The municipality appointed Kabe Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd, which appointed a subcontractor, Halifax Group and Gege Group Kgakanoko JV, which is executing the construction on site,” Mahube says.
