More water problems from tonight

Areas that were affected by the problems at Rand Water’s Driefontein reservoir will again be affected from tonight.

The Merafong City Local Municipality says that Rand Water will be working to fix problems on its system that caused residents of Fochville, Kokosi, Greenspark, Wedela, Mohalieshoek, Elandsrand, Deelkraal and the Kusasalethu mine area to be without water for days this week.

“Prepartions to install a new valve to be used to bypass Driefontein reservoir are underway. Installation of this valve will commence today, 17 September from 18:00 ending on Monday morning at 10:00. All of Merafong City’s meters that are supplied by Rand Water;s Driefontein reservoir will be affected during this work,” says the municipal manager, Mr Dumisani D. Mabuza.

The municipality has arranged for water tankers to temporarily assist in the affected areas. Residents are also urged to reduce water use and to use water sparingly during this season of high demand. Affected residents are also reminded that, as this is work in progress, they should keep their taps closed to avoid flooding their homes.

The municipality said that employees will be updated on when the work is completed.
