Khutsong man gets life for rape of girl (5)

The perpetrator of this terrible crime against an innocent child will be spending years in prison.

A man from Khutsong was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of a five-year-old girl.

According to the commander of the West Rand FCS (Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences) Unit, Captain Arnel Prinsloo, Mzwandile Dineka (26) pulled the girl out from beneath a corrugated iron wall of her family’s shack in the Chris Hani informal settlement on 3 September 2020. He picked her up and took her to a nearby veld, where he raped her.

The girl’s mother immediately went to the police when she realized her daughter was gone and members of various policing units as well as the community started to search for her and her kidnapper.

They tracked down Dineka during this search but the girl could not be found in any of the places he alleged to had left her at.

Two schoolboys eventually found the injured girl in the veld two days after she was kidnapped and took her to the Khutsong Police Station.

Dineka was found guilty on charges of kidnapping, rape and escape in the Oberholzer Regional Court. The last charge stems from the fact that he had escaped from Carletonville Hospital, where being treated for an injury while in custody. He was, however, soon rearrested.

Magistrate Jan Steyn sentenced Dineka to life imprisonment for the rape, five years for the kidnapping and 12 months for the escape on 7 July.

“We are satisfied with the sentence and want to thank everyone who helped in the search for the girl as it was really a joint action by the police and the community,” says Prinsloo.

She also thanked the investigating officer, Constable Aphiwe Mvubu for the hard work that he had put in to secure Dineka’s arrest and conviction.
