Taxi driver gunned down

A member of CALLDTA (the Carletonville Local and Long-Distance Taxi Association) was the latest victim in the ongoing taxi violence in the Carletonville area.

The 57-year-old driver was killed last night (Wednesday 19 July) at approximately 19:50. He had stopped to refuel his white Toyota Quantum taxi at Slabbert Motors in Station Street in Carletonville and was speaking to a filling station attendant when two men walked up to them.

The unknown assailants pulled out firearms and brutally shot the driver before running away.

He died at the scene.

The murder case is being investigating by die police’s special taxi violence unit.
