Gertjie Bothma gets hefty sentence

Carletonville resident Gertjie Bothma, who ran from the police after murdering a business manager in Oberholzer in January received a hefty sentence for his crimes in the Oberholzer Regional Court this week.

Police launched a massive manhunt for Bothma (42) after the murder of the manager of the Sleepover Guest House and Conference Facility in Oberholzer, Mr Domingos Antonio Novela, on 11 January this year.

Bothma and Visser appeared in court on Thursday 15 June after the case against Erasmus was withdrawn since their last appearance.

Bothma appeared on charges of housebreaking and theft as well as murder while Visser just appeared on a charge of housebreaking and theft.

Both pleaded guilty on charges against them.

Magistrate Jan Steyn sentenced Bothma to 15 years imprisonment on the murder as well as four years imprisonment for the housebreaking and theft.

Visser was also sentenced to four years imprisonment for the housebreaking and theft.
