Watch out for dangerous robbers

During the past week, criminals targeted several homes in the central part of Carletonville, and the police suspect it was a gang of robbers.

The first incident happened in Umgeni Street on Monday, 24 April.
A resident sat in his garden with his friend at approximately 22:30 when his dogs started barking. The next thing they knew, three unknown men walked through his front gate.
“What are you doing here?” he asked.
“Voetsek!” one of the men screamed back at him before they pulled out firearms. The friends realised they were in a hazardous situation and ran into the house. The criminals fired three shots at them but never caught them. The bullets hit a vehicle, though.
The police are investigating a case of attempted murder following the incident.
At about 23:15 the same evening, a Kaolin Street resident living near the Carletonville swimming pool was smoking in his garden when two unknown men suddenly jumped over his wall. One had a firearm, and the other wielded an iron pipe.
“We are here to work,” the men said before one pointed his firearm at the resident. They then demanded money.
They grabbed his cell phone and money before running out of the yard.
Yet another incident happened on Azurite Street on 25 April.
A homeowner and a friend were talking at his gate when two unknown men suddenly appeared. One pulled out a firearm and shot the owner through his left arm and chin. The man was rushed to Fountain Private Hospital, and police later found a 9 mm cartridge at the scene. Following these incidents, the police warn residents to lock their doors and stay inside after dark as it is unsafe to be outside. They also caution against confronting possible criminals, urging victims to get to safety and contact the police. Anyone who may have information about these criminals, who are Zulu and Shangaan speaking, should contact Colonel Wessel Prinsloo at 082 463 0236.
