Water leaks continue unabated

Water leaks continued to be a massive problem in our area over the past weeks.

In one of the cases, water is leaking from a water meter on the sidewalk next to 1 Boundary Street in Carletonville. Although the leak has been there since before the Covid-19 pandemic, it is getting steadily worse.
When the Herald visited the site, the stream of water flowing into the street was more than a metre wide, whereas it was only a wet spot on the sidewalk when it was initially reported.
Without anyone attending to the leak, the residents fear it could cause a sinkhole.
The leak on the corner of 2nd- and Wolder streets in Fochville has also been frequently reported; the residents have been complaining about it for most of the past month.
The Herald took the matters to the Merafong City Local Municipality.
“The Municipality is waiting for meter delivery. As soon as they are available, this issue will be resolved,” the municipal spokesperson answered about the leak in Boundary Street.
“The problem is caused by the fire hydrant, and an order has been placed.
“As soon as the fire hydrant is available, the leak will be sorted,” was the answer about the ongoing leak in Fochville.

Residents have been complaining about the leak at the corner of 2nd Street and Wolder Street in Fochville for weeks.
