Suspected poisoning after two children and four dogs die

Two children and four dogs died in the Chris Hani Section in Khutsong on Monday 2 May.

Two children and four dogs died in the Chris Hani Section in Khutsong on Monday 2 May.
It is alleged that the father of the two-year-old girl took her with him to a nearby shop to buy snacks. After eating some of the snacks, she later died in the presence of both parents.
On the same day, another boy from the area was also reported to have died after buying and eating something from a local shop. He passed away after being taken to the Khutsong Main Clinic.
Four dogs also appeared to have been poisoned during the weekend and police suspect that the poison could have been spread around the area and caused the deaths. The community is understandably shocked by, and concerned about, the sudden deaths.
A case of inquest has been opened and post mortems must still be conducted to determine the cause of the horrific deaths.
Parents are advised to teach their children not to use or drink from empty containers or play at dumping sites. They are also advised to keep poisonous substances away from children.
The children have not been identified as investigations are underway.
