Municipal truck standing unused for months

While residents everywhere across the municipal area are crying for service delivery, a municipal truck that is crucial in helping with these services is standing in a municipal worker’s yard.

According to people from the area, the municipal “cherry picker” has been standing in the driveway of house No. 6099 in Kokosi Extension 6 for more than two months.
As far as could be determined, the municipal employee who drives the truck parked it at his house one afternoon around February. However, he could not get it started again and it has been standing there unused ever since.
Although the worker reportedly called colleagues to come and help to either tow it in or fix it, he has not received help. Besides the truck not being used for service delivery, it blocks the worker’s driveway and he cannot get his private car out of his yard.
In the past, the municipality has acknowledged that it does not have enough cherry picker trucks, used to hoist workers into the air. These vehicles are used to repair street lights or cut overhanging branches. Broken street lights are currently one of the biggest problems in the municipality as dark streets offer the ideal space for cable thieves to operate.
No one knows why the municipality does not attend to this broken vehicle.
Although the Herald sent questions to the Merafong City Local Municipality about the problems on 12 April already, they did not answer.
