Road into Welverdiend a 4×4 course

Motorists entering and leaving Welverdiend over the railway line have to be expert drivers not to damage their vehicles.

Although the road’s condition has been an ongoing problem for most of the past decade, it is now in dismal shape again. The surface is full of potholes, many of which are so big that they could easily damage most vehicles. Even trucks have to drive very slowly to avoid damage.
The problem is even worse when it rains, like last Monday morning, because the water conceals even the most dangerous potholes.
Although the road is repaired from time to time, no maintenance has been done recently.
Conditions have become so dangerous that some residents have started filling the worst potholes with sand.
Drivers in this area now face even more peril as the overgrowth next to the railway line is so long that motorists cannot see oncoming trains. The grass is higher than most cars. If a train does not hoot or make its presence known, a serious accident could occur.
The Herald complained about the issues to the Merafong City Local Municipality. “The potholes will be fixed soon and the municipality is currently working on a grass cutting schedule. Therefore, the grass in this area will be cut soon,” the municipal spokesperson promised.
