No answers about traffic lights

The Merafong City Local Municipality has still not said when it plans to fix the traffic lights at a busy intersection in Carletonville.

Frustrated motorists struggle at the crossing of Ada Street and Onyx Drive as the traffic lights have been out of order since October. Although they started giving problems in the second half of last year, they were repaired every time before. The intersection is very busy at times because Ada Street is the fastest route to get to parts of Oberholzer. It is also on the main route for minibus taxis from the Carletonville Taxi Rank. Many residents have voiced their frustration on social media community groups, but the municipality seems to turn a blind eye to the problem. The lights have been out for such a long time that some residents have proposed that the municipality take them out and make the crossing a permanent four-way stop. They hope this will lessen the confusion of motorists on what to do when they get there. In October, the municipality said the “lights will be repaired as soon as possible”, but did not answer more questions about the issue this week.
