Big things await young model

A young model from our area is ready to win over the judges with her charm in two international competitions next year.

Seven-year-old Angela Roqo, a learner from Laerskool Jongspan, won the title of International Junior Miss South Africa at an event in Durban on 9 October.
Angela already entered this competition, under the umbrella of the International Junior Miss pageant, in February 2020. Nikki Clark founded the pageant in the USA in 2008 to encourage positive achievement among young girls. The winners in each division walk away with a scholarship and crown.
Angela will now represent the country at the International Junior Miss pageant in the USA in October 2022.
Meanwhile, she is also set to represent South Africa in the Little Mr and Miss Africa pageant at the Pearl of Africa Hotel in Uganda. The final should have taken place in January already, but it has now been postponed until March next year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Angela’s mom, Mrs Zikhona Roqo, she has been an achiever since she was very young. Angela started nursery school and modelling at the age of three.
“At the end of her third year, she could write her name and has excelled academically ever since,” says her mother. She has also won more than 60 modelling titles.
“I always practise hard because practice makes perfect,” Angela spelt out her life motto to the Herald at the family’s home in the Western Deep Levels village last year.
According to Zikhona, the only thing currently hampering her special little girl’s progress is that the family does not have the money for her mother to accompany Angela to the international finals.
“No matter how well she does, she is still only a little girl and one cannot send her there by herself. She also needs me to help dress her and do other things a child of her age needs their parent for,” she says.
According to her, she needs the community’s help in letting little Angela reach the dreams she has already worked so hard to achieve.
Anyone who may be able to assist can call Mrs Roqo at 060 553 3869.
