Another taxi owner gunned down

Another taxi owner belonging to Cuta (The Carletonville United Taxi Association) was gunned down mercilessly last week.
According to Khutsong police’s communication officer, Captain Eddie Boboko, they are investi- gating a murder case after the incident on 21 October.
Mr Pule Maponyane (59) was travelling in his private bakkie when the incident occurred on the road between Khutsong and Welverdiend at about 13:55.
Boboko says the Khutsong SAPS’s sector vehicle was summoned to the scene near Khutsong South.
On their arrival, they found Maponyane’s red Ford courier bakkie with bullet holes in the driver’s door. His body was found next to the passenger side with a bullet wound in his upper body.
Although paramedics rushed to the scene, Maponyane had already passed away.

“Preliminary investigations re- vealed that the deceased was a taxi owner in Carletonville. The passenger who survived the shooting alleged that the suspects were driving in a black Volkswagen Polo. The suspects are still at large,” says Boboko. The station commander, Colonel Melinda Prinsloo sent her sincere condolences to the family and condemned the violence and killings in the taxi industry. She further appealed to the community to join hands and assist the police with information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects.
Information can be shared at Crime Stop Hotline at 08600 10111 or anonymously on the MySAPS app.
Meanwhile, the Gauteng West South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) Gauteng West chair- person, Mr Mahlomola Ratsoeu, expressed his dissatisfaction with the slow pace at which the police’s special taxi violence unit is investigating the recent murders in Merafong’s taxi industry.
“We are losing people and nothing is being done.
“Cuta’s AGM takes place this week and I want someone from the provincial police to attend and give feedback on how far they are proceeding with their investigation,” he says.
