Hijackers kidnap driver

In a scary new strategy, hijackers also asked for ransom money in an incident this week.

The Carletonville police say a motorist was driving on the R500 towards the N14 at about 14:45 on 19 August when the incident hap- pened. He was near Red Cap Ranch when a white Toyota Corolla with a blue light suddenly appeared behind him. The driver gestured to him to stop and he pulled over. Before he could do anything further, four men jumped out of the Corolla.
They pulled the victim from the driver’s seat and pushed him into the back of his white Volkswagen Polo. They drove around with him in areas he did not know and later called one of his friends, asking for a ransom to get him back safely.
The friend complied and the suspects dropped the driver off unharmed in Finsbury.
The hijackers fled with his car and the ransom money.
