Watch out for large hole in road

Carletonville residents driving towards town in Reinecke Street should look out for a large hole in the road surface.

The hole, which is wider than a car, is situated near the municipal substation next to the Felspar Street intersection.
According to a resident, the Merafong City Local Municipality dug up the road surface to change a leaking pipe around February this year. They never returned to repair the damage to the road, however.
Although they filled the hole with sand, it is gradually sagging. The tarred edges of the hole, especially the one in the middle of the road, is now much higher than the hole and could damage a vehicle. Once the rainy season starts, more sand will wash out and the hole will become ever more dangerous.
“With the way that many drivers speed in this street, it is a miracle that no one has been injured yet,” the resident complains.
The Herald asked the municipality about the problem on Tuesday.
“The pothole will be fixed,” was the municipality’s only answer.
