Firearms documentation now costs more

Residents wishing to apply for any documentation related to firearms now have to pay more than a few months ago.

According to the designated firearms officer at the Carletonville police station, Captain Tefo Madibo, the new prices came into effect when they were published in the Government Gazette on 5 July.
The Minister of Police made the amendments to Annexure B of the Firearms Control Regulations, as per the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000). An application for a firearm licence will now cost R154 (up from R147) while the application for a competency certificate, an application for a further competency certificate or an application for a duplicate license, permit, certificate or authorisation now costs R77 (up from R73). An application for a licence issued to particular categories of people, like dealers, manufacturers and gunsmiths, now costs R1,538 (up from R1,467).
Meanwhile, Madibo asks members of the public who want to check on the applications they have already submitted to phone his office at 018 787 9318/9 instead of going there in person. This is to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.
Members of the public who need to visit the office for applications can do so from 08:00 to 15:00 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
