A man is not a financial plan

Jenwil BlueStar invites women to attend a webinar for women on 10 August 2021 at 18:00 to share how and where to start to attain financial confidence and well-being.

Barbara Walters was one of the first women to work in American television. She started her career in the 1960’s when discrimination against women, especially in the workplace, was the norm. Despite these challenges, she persevered and had an exceptional career spanning over six decades. When asked what advice she would give to young and aspiring women, she said: “Be good, work hard… that you become invaluable.”

Sixty years later, women are still facing various challenges. These include being on average paid 28% less than men. Statistically, the life expectancy for women is around 6 years longer than men. Considering that many women park their careers while raising their children, women are left with a huge disadvantage when planning for retirement and accumulating wealth.

Women are constantly torn between their family and career. Single mothers are especially under pressure to provide for their family’s financial needs, wanting to be physically and emotionally available for them, not even to mention the responsibility of taking care of the household. Because, for most women, their first financial priority is to take care of their family, they generally have very little, if anything, left to save and invest. With almost 50% of marriages in South Africa not surviving the first 10 years we often see women walking out of relationships with a financial disadvantage. The upside, however, of facing challenges and having many responsibilities, is that it inevitably helps women develop more sophisticated skills. Learning from Barbara Walters: “Just use your superior skills to plan well, and stick to your plan with tenacity, then you can have the best of both worlds”.

Jenwil BlueStar would therefore like to invite you to attend our webinar for women on 10 August 2021 at 18:00, in collaboration with Glacier by Sanlam, asset managers Coronation and Amplify, where we will share with you how and where to start to attain financial confidence and well-being. We also have a special guest speaker, Kyla Blackwood-Murray from Image Innovators, talking on “Colour Me Beautiful”. Nothing is more empowering and uplifting to the soul than to look in the mirror and love yourself from head to toe. Colour has the power to make or break you.
