Tennis courts get new life

The Carletonville tennis courts and youth centre in Calcite Street are getting a facelift.

Residents passing by the Carletonville Youth Centre in Calcite Street, of which the tennis courts form part, would have noticed that a lot of activity is taking place at the facility. By last week, most of the tennis courts had already been dug up while the workers were also busy doing other work. Although tennis players previously used the youth centre and various people used the hall, the whole centre has been in a poor state for more than two years. It has also been extensively vandalised. The Merafong City Local Municipality, which owns the youth centre, had some good news about its future on Tuesday. According to them, Harmony Gold is doing the renovations so it can again be used for sports and activities to develop the youth, like tennis and initiatives by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda).
It is not clear when the work will be completed.
