Burglars caught and stolen goods recovered

The Khutsong police caught several burglars and recovered the stolen goods this week. The communication officer, Captain Eddie Boboko, says the team of detectives investigating burglaries in Khutsong comprise sergeants Dikeledi Nomandla and Ditaba Mapitse and constables Ncane Bobe, Lucia Magasane and Kgotso Molefe. They launched a manhunt in search of housebreaking suspects on Wednesday, 14 July. During the operation, the team followed up information from community members and arrested a 31-year-old man in Sonderwater informal settlement. They also recovered a 32-inch plasma television and heater. The arrest came after the suspect broke into a house at a church in Khutsong South on the night of 7 June. The victim heard someone in his room and shouted at the thug, frightening the burglar and his accomplices away. The victim later realised that his 32-inch plasma television and heater had been stolen. The detectives continued their search with a special operation on Thursday, 15 July. They followed up on a tip-off that goods stolen during a burglary were hidden in a house in Carletonville. When they arrived, the suspect had already gone, but they recovered another 32-inch plasma television, a sound system and cell phones. The goods were stolen from a house in Khutsong South just after the owner left for work on 16 June. The man found that his house had been broken into upon his return from work. “The team is working around the clock to trace the rest of the suspects. The suspect has already appeared in Khutsong Magistrate’s Court on charges of housebreaking and theft,” says Boboko. The Khutsong station commander, Colonel Melinda Prinsloo, applauded the members. “I am impressed by the positive response and dedication of the members. Their hard work ensures that those who break the law are removed from our society and face the full might of the law. House- breaking and theft are still a concern in the Khutsong policing area. We appeal to the community to take part in the ’Know your neighbourhood watch’ programme and assist with information if they notice any suspicion of housebreaking that could lead to the suspects’ arrest.” The community is asked to visit the police station and identify any recovered goods that might be theirs. Prinsloo warns the community not to buy stolen goods or take the law into their hands as they will be arrested.
