Film shoot in Khutsong

The film, titled “Ghetto Boy”, involves young actors from Khutsong and Wedela. It was an exhausting day as the shoot started at Khutsong Stadium in the morning.
The story is based on a young man who wants to be a soccer star but is facing challenges and goes through many difficult situations that most young men go through in the township. The film was written, produced and directed by Vibration Taylor, a local artist and an up-and-coming filmmaker. “The film aims to address social issues facing young people in the township and expose the harsh conditions in the ghetto,’’ he said.
The cast was a group of stars who are talented in different areas, like Xolani Mbesi, also known as DDX, an up-and-coming rapper, Fikile Muchave, a sensational gospel artist and Khopotso Motseki, who is currently Miss Teen Universe semi-finalist.
“It was a good experience for most of us as it was the first time being on set. I’m grateful for the opportunity to pursue acting,’’ said Muchave.
“It was great to be on set with the cast and crew and I am honoured to work with Vi- bration Taylor and be part of telling the story of the Ghetto Boy,’’ said DDX.
The artist and filmmaker’s mission is to create employment through filmmaking. Many talented actors, actresses, filmmakers, editors, producers, writers, designers and many other talents can be given opportunities and this will in turn help to grow the local economy. His vision is to ultimately create a local film industry where there will be different productions throughout the West Rand competing with creative content which will lead to the development of the South African Film Industry.
The filmmaker hosted a local school film tour in Khutsong and will continue with initiatives like a local film festival in Carletonville soon.
The film shoot will take place through the winter season and the film will be showcased as soon as the post-production process is completed.
Many other films will also be produced from Merafong.
