Warning of possible water shortage

Sunday, 30 May: The Merafong City Local Municipality warns that residents must use water sparingly as there are currently problems at Rand Water.

According to the municipal spokesperson Merafong Water Services has received the following message from Rand Water this morning at 09:45: ”City Power substation has just exploded resulting in Rand Water not being able to pump water to our reservoirs , as a result the levels in all our reservoirs has dropped drastically to the extent that some areas are experiencing low pressure or no water at all. City Power is working on the problem, downtime unknown at this stage. Rand Water apologize for the inconvenience.” The municipality requests all residents to use water sparingly until electricity at Rand Water pumpstations is fully restored. Merafong receives water from Driefontein reservoir currently at 79% and Libanon reservoir at 69%. “We will keep residents informed on the progess made at  the pumpstations providing water to the Driefontein and Libanon reservoirs. The municipality apologises for the inconvenience,” says the spokesperson.
