Ipid arrests Khutsong police members

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) arrested two police members for corruption recently.

Ipid’s spokesperson, Ms Ndileka Cola, says the members, a 35-year-old female constable and a 33-year-old male constable, of the Khutsong police’s visible policing unit, were driving in Khutsong when they saw someone carrying pineapple beer during the hard lockdown last year. They then allegedly went to a home at Khayalethu Section in Khutsong, where they found the female suspect with family members. The police officers found pine- apple beer in buckets at the home and confiscated the liquor. They then arrested the woman for the possession of homemade liquor. “The allegation is that the police officers demanded R2,500 to let the complainant go. They then drove back to her house, where she allegedly gave them the money. Further to the cash, the police allegedly left with the brew, which they never booked in at the police station,” says Cola. The two were arrested on fraud charges after the Ipid investigation and have already appeared in court.
