One reverend, 3 marriages and 8 baptisms

One reverend, 3 marriages and 8 baptisms

It’s not often that a preacher gets to be a part of every marriage and baptism in a family over 30 years. But this privilege has been bestowed upon Rev. Cathy du Plessis from the Methodist Church in Parys. She has been a part of the Dedwith family from Parys for many years now. Last weekend marked a special celebration for her when she baptised Frances, the youngest grandchild of Wynn and Tayce Dedwith, on the family farm, Mooihoek. Rev. Cathy married all three of Wynn and Tayce’s children and baptised all eight grandchildren over the past years. She married Reece and Megan Dedwith, George and Bronwyn Cilliers, and Devin and Juanita Dedwith. Frances is the youngest child of Devin and Juanita.

Cathy also baptised Reece and Megan’s three children – Julia, Rory and Ellen – and George and Bronwyn’s children – Nicholas, Alexandra and Lara – and Devin and Juanita’s eldest daughter, Emma. Emma and Lara were baptised on the same day. The 80-year-old Cathy has been a reverend at the Methodist Church since the year 2000.
