Carleton Jones High School excelled by obtaining a 100 percent pass rate, which is the highest overall percentage of any school in the area. A total of 57,5 percent of matrics passed with bachelors, enabling them to continue with university studies. 39,4 percent obtained diploma passes and 3,1 percent obtained higher certificate passes. Zahra Varachia from Carleton Jones High School achieved four distinctions in Afrikaans, Life-Orientation, Life-Sciences and Economics. Portia Dlamini from Carleton Jones High School also walked off with four distinctions in Afrikaans, Life-Orientation, Geography and English. Then Mbali Maseko from Carleton Jones High School obtained three distinctions in Afrikaans, Life-Orientation and Business Studies. “We are very proud of our results – the product of very hard work by teachers and learners,” said the deputy principal, Ms Melanie van Wyk. Very closely behind them is Carletonville High School, which obtained a 99,3 percent pass rate. 40,9 percent of the matrics obtained bachelors passes and 52,3 percent obtained diploma passes. 6,7 percent got higher certificate passes. Bongiwe Nkosi from Carletonville High School got three distinctions for Life-Orientation, Business Studies and Accounting. Jolene Visser, also from Carletonville High School, obtained three distinctions in Maths Lit, Geography and Tourism. And also, Stephan Otto obtained two distinctions in Afrikaans and English. Hoërskool Fochville held the area’s name high with a pass rate of 98 percent, 99 percent of which walked away with bachelors passes. Learners from this school also obtained the most distinctions. Letsatsing Combined School also held the area’s name high as the school obtained a pass rate of 88,75 percent. 55 matriculants obtained bachelors passes and 59 obtained diploma passes, leaving 28 with higher certificate passes.Wonderfontein High School matriculants also did a great job by obtaining a pass rate of 88 percent, an improvement on last year’s results. Nineteen matrics obtained bachelors passes, 55 obtained diploma passes and 30 obtained higher certificate passes. “We are satisfied with the matric results at our school because the pass rate has increased from the previous year. Thanks to the matrics and teachers,” said the principal of Wonderfontein High School. Another school that excelled is Badirile High School in Khutsong after its matrics obtained a pass rate of 83,87 percent. 59 matriculants obtained bachelors passes and another 59 obtained diploma passes. 38 matriculants obtained higher certificate passes. Imfundo Secondary School in Kokosi, with a pass rate of 77, 27 percent, saw 22 matriculants achieve bachelors passes, 28 obtained diploma passes and 18 get higher certificate passes. Tswasongu Secondary School, in turn, also did well by obtaining a 73, 11 percent pass rate. There were 46 bachelors passes, 53 diploma passes and 37 higher certificate passes. Thuto-Kitso Secondary School obtained a pass rate of 71,3 percent, with 39 bachelors passes, 86 diploma passes and 44 higher certificate passes. Relebogile Secondary School’s 184 learners obtained a pass rate of 67, 04 percent. The breakdown is 31 bachelors passes, 47 diploma passes and 40 higher certificate passes. The results of Wedela Technical High School will appear in next week’s edition of the Herald as it was impossible to get hold of the school.
