According to statistics released by the Gauteng Department of Health this afternoon, there are now 5 008 residents of the Merafong City Local Municipality who have been infected with the coronavirus.
This is a result of the fact that there have been 16 new cases of the disease reported in our area during the past day. This raise is the highest in the West Rand. Of the total number of cases 196 have died while 4 715 have recovered.
Three of these deaths have occurred since Monday. In the meantime there are now 12 496 people in Mogale City (the Krugersdorp-area) who have been infected with Covid-19. A total of 12 063 of them have recovered while 379 have died.
Eight new coronavirus cases were reported in Mogale City since yesterday. There are also 6 920 coronavirus cases in Rand West City (the Randfontein and Westonaria area).
Of these people 6665 have recovered while 225 have died. Only three new cases were reported in Rand West City during the past day.
