House robbers strike in Silver Street

Residents of a house in Silver Street in Carletonville became the victims of house robbers in the past week.

According to the Carletonville police’s communication officer, WO Peter Masooa, the incident happened at 02:55 on Friday, 12 March.

A resident from the outside room told the police a sound at the door suddenly awoke her. She got up and realised someone was at the door. However, before she could call for help, a man pointed a firearm at her and her room-mate.

“Cooperate with me and you will be safe,” the robber said.

He forced them to hand over the keys to their room, and they complied. The man, masked with a balaclava, then opened the door and came inside. He showed them his firearm and its magazine but reassured the women he would not rape them. Three other robbers were also at the scene.

They took the women’s cell phones and demanded money. He asked them to remove their pin codes from their phones and when they said they did not have money, he took their plasma television.

After asking about the woman next door, the robber and his accomplices told the women to be quiet. If not, they threatened to “come back and finish them off”. The robbers then fled the scene with the stolen goods, valued at R5,000.
