At 16:40, ER24 paramedics and the Provincial Services arrived on the scene to find both vehicles in the intersection. One woman was found seated on the sidewalk while the man was in the driver seat and the woman found trapped in the passenger seat.
Medics assessed the patients and found that the man had suffered minor injuries while the woman outside the vehicle had sustained critical injuries. The woman trapped inside had sustained moderate injuries.
The fire services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the woman from the vehicle. Once released, medics treated the patients and provided the critically injured woman with advanced life support interventions before they were transported to Potchefstroom Provincial Hospital for further care.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
