Four Carletonville police members arrested in connection with murder and cable theft

Four police members of the community service centre of the police in Carletonville were arrested at the police station this morning (4 March).

According to the West Rand District Police Commissioner, Major General Fred Kenana, who was also at the scene, the arrests stem from the murder of two zama-zamas that took place next to the bridge at Khutsong Extension 5 last month.

The investigating officer in the case, Warrant Officer Jacques Nagel, and a team of his fellow detectives linked the police members arrested for the crimes, two male Sergeants, a female Sergeant and a male Constable to the case through an intensive investigation during the past weeks.

According to Major General Kekana, the suspects were called to the Carletonville Police station this morning after warrants for their arrests were obtained last night. The four suspects were charged with two counts of murder, theft of copper cable and defeating the ends of justice and will soon appear in court.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) will now take over the case because of the fact that the suspects are police members.

“We will remove all corrupt police officers because they damage our name. These crimes make me feel very bad as the public trusts the police to protect them. We expect police members not to commit crimes,” Kekana told the Herald.
