Merafong fails its ratepayers with new once every two weeks rubbish removal schedule

Many residents are up in arms over the Merafong City Local Municipality's announcement earlier today that it will now only empty wheelie bins once every two weeks, instead of once a week.

Residents are currently paying to have their refuse removed once a week.

The current refuse removal problems stem from a shortage of staff due to the ongoing strike by temporary workers who want to be employed permanently.

Some residents have to had their refuse removed for the past three weeks. Many people have now started to pay private companies to remove their rubbish.

One of the questions that the municipality has not answered so far is whether residents will now be able to put out their extra rubbish in black bags again.

Here is the municipality’s new refuse removal schedule that it announced earlier today.
