Cansa screening day around the corner

The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) is still active in the area and ready to assist those with cancer or who want to be screened for the disease.

According to Sr Monica Grové, the organisation is delivering various services in the area again.
Although the organisation renders some from its care centre at 4 Peperkorrel Street in Fochville, a qualified sister also reaches out to patients in the Carletonville area.
Cansa offers a wide range of care and support services to those affected by cancer. They include stoma support, wigs, prostheses, assistive devices and medical equipment hire, lymph-oedema management and other clinical support. There are also counselling, support groups and home-based care.Besides their normal services, Cansa will host a special screening day from 09:00 to 14:00 on Wednesday, 24 February.
People can be tested for various cancers at a fraction of the cost at a private doctor.
Many GPs also refer their patients to specialists for these tests, which are even more expensive. The tests will include pap smears and clinical breast examinations, blood tests and finger pricks for prostate-specific antigens, blood pressure and glucose tests and thorough mole examinations. Lifestyle risk assessments will also be done free of charge for people who make appointments.
For these services or more information, contact Grové at 083 461 0631 or Sr Maureen Wilson at 076 882 6971.
