29 January: Coronavirus cases still increasing in Merafong

Although there has not been as many new coronavirus infections in our area during the past day as there were a month ago, figures are still increasing.

According to the Gauteng department of health there were 21 residents of the Merafong City local municipal area who tested positive for the coronavirus during the past day. This brings the total number of cases in our area to 4 321. Of these infected residents 3 970 have recovered while 107 have passed away due to Covid-19.

Elsewhere in the West Rand 35 new cases were reported in Mogale City (the Krugersdorp area). This bring their total number of cases to 11 758. Of these 11 005 people have recovered while 326 have died.

A total of 32 new coronavirus cases were also reported in Rand West City (the Randfontein and Westonaria area). This area’s total number of cases is now 6 438, of which 5 959 people have recovered and 185 have died.
