According to the Gauteng department of health, 28 new cases of the new virus were reported in the Merafong City municipal area during the past day.
This increases the total number of cases in Merafong to 3 510. Cases elsewhere in the West Rand are also increasing. 100 new cases were reported in Mogale City (the Krugersdorp area), bringing their total to 9 863 while 73 new cases were reported in Rand West City (the Randfontein and Westonaria area).
Rand West’s total now stands at 5 101. Up to now 83 patients have died of Covid-19 in Merafong.
A total of 231 have passed away from the disease in Mogale City and 130 in Rand West.
