Murderer gets life sentence

A resident who murdered an immigrant from Lesotho just as he stepped into Carletonville received a hefty sentence in court last week.

Mr Jan Steyn, the Oberholzer regional court magistrate, sentenced David Tsolo (35) from Khutsong this week. Tsolo was previously found guilty on charges of murder, robbery and the possession of a dangerous weapon. He received a life sentence on the murder charge, a sentence of 15 years imprisonment for the robbery and another three years for being in possession of a dangerous weapon. According to the investi- gating officer, Captain Soon Theron of the Carletonville detective services, the sentence stems from an incident that took place on 13 October 2016.

That day, the 30-year-old Lesotho national, Lebuso Motseki, had just arrived at the Carletonville taxi rank after leaving his home country. He had not even stepped out of the taxi rank when he was attacked and robbed by a group of four thugs, including Tsolo. The robbers stabbed Motseki and he died of his injuries in the taxi rank. Two of the other men involved in the incident have since passed away, while the third was found not guilty of the crime.
“I am delighted with the sentence. This success was due to teamwork from me and several of my colleagues,” says Theron.
