Public notice from municipality about water problems

The Merafong City Local Municipality has issued a press release about the current water problems.

The low water pressure experienced in Merafong is due to the low water level of the Vaal Dam. This is due to the high water demand from municipalities who have an increased number of water tanks due to Covid-19 Pandemic.
Rand Water has currently exceeded its limit of drawing water from the Vaal River System by about 8%.
The Rand Water District Technical Team is working closely with the Merafong City’s Water Section on the water pressure management process at various supply points.
As per the previous plan prior Covid-19, the water supply pressure for Khutsong South and Khutsong North will not be reduced due to dolomite conditions that have affected water infrastructure.
Rand Water and the municipality are working together in ensuring that all areas receive water supply as per previous supply plan.
The reduction in water pressure is not related to any payment issues.
The community is requested to use water sparingly, as the Vaal dam catchment area is under severe pressure.
