On Tuesday 04 August 2015 at about 11 o’clock in the Merafong district a different type of drama played out in Fochville.

After a follow up to his specialist Mr Eichmann Marais from the farm Elandsfontein took his mother Eloise Marais hostage in the family vehicle. Luckily Mrs Marais had the South African Police Service of Fochville on speed dial. The SAPS response to the scene was swift and decisive . After all its not every day you hear in the district that a Son takes his mother hostage after seeing a specialist.

What transpired is the following and this is the facts that could have been obtained before going to the Printers with the story.

The morning of the 4th of August started like any other day on the farm Elandsfontein. With one exception however, a specialist appointment had to be honoured and attended for Mr Eichmann Marais. Upon arrival at the specialist no unbecoming behaviour was detected from Mr Marais. He was friendly with the specialist staff and even friendly towards the other patients waiting their turn in the waiting area.

As with all previous examinations Mr Eichmann weighed in at a healthy weight when he stepped on the scale. Upon stepping onto the examination table Mr Eichmann was given a sedation and muscle relaxer.

After coming out of Sedation this is where all the problems started. Mr Eichmann did not want to get into the family vehicle. However his mother finally succeeded getting him into the vehicle. Upon starting the vehicle it is assumed that the starting of the engine aggravated Mr Eichmann Marais state of mind. “He became very verbally abusive towards me” his mother stated in the interview. Also she told us – “I was amazed at all he proclaimed about the visit to the specialist and why he does not want to go back to the farm” I could not take his abusive tone anymore and called the South African Police Service in Fochville.

Responding swiftly and with decisive accuracy the South African Police Service responded immediately to the mother in distress. After two minutes of negotiating with Mr Eichmann Marais the situation was swiftly resolved and subsequently the transgressor was placed under arrest and placed in the Police van.

Following this misdemeanour Colonel Maas and Captain Koekemoer from the SAPS Fochville branch concluded that the Mr Eichmann Marais will be placed under house arrest for the remainder of the week until such time that he had recovered from the sedation.

“I hereby would like to thank the South African Police Service for responding to my call for assistance and help with regards to my boy. Eichmann the Bullterrier. Thank you for assisting with his transportation from the vet to the farm and escorting us safely home” You are doing an excellent Job for the community of Fochville as well as the surrounding farms in the district. – Gerhard & Eloise Marais
