TSHEPONG. – “The poor are not alone – we work together. It is the first time we have come to this area to donate 500 blankets, with a balance of 700 to be distributed to the region every winter.”

The Purple Bandage gives blankets every winter with the motto: ‘Warming body, Winning heart.’ “If we work together we can always have a better life,” said Mohamed Ravat, CEO of Purple Bandage. The blankets, soft drinks, oranges and bananas were distributed in Tshepong, ward 21 recently. Regarding the distribution, the focus was mainly pensioners, wheelchair-bound people, and the disadvantaged.

Ravat said they depend on public donations: “We have a 100% donor policy offered directly by Purple Bandage. The soft drinks, bananas, oranges were sponsored by Riaz Shunaro of Discount Radio in Vereeniging, and Ali Arshad of Ali Hardware in Meyerton.

Ravat said they spend from their own pockets. Sicelo and Sonderwater residents received the blankets last year.
Riaz and Kodisang Dikano are the African National Congress branch treasurer and chairperson for ward 21 in Tshepong.

Selina Majola, an old gogo, after receiving the blanket said she is now ready for the winter: “I am going to add it to the number of the blankets I already have. She said she would like to have more but due to the high volume of needy people, “Half a loaf is better than nothing,” she expressed.
