Law Society struck WECO’s Attorney off the roll

SEBOKENG. - In a bid to access more information on development and processing from Land Restitution, the Wildebeesfontein Evaton Community Organisation (WECO) wrote a letter to the Law Society of the Northern Province to speed up their long marathon land case.

Much to their embarrassment, WECO received a letter from the Kwa-Zulu Natal Law Society. The letter – in the hands of Sedibeng Ster – signed by curator administrator, A Badhur (Mrs), “confirmed that Attorney Sundeep Singh was struck off the roll of Attorneys on February 10, 2014 as per case number 1822/14.”

When approached for comment the president of WECO Joseph Mahlaba confirmed he’d received such a letter. He said they’d also received another document made out for the attention of Minesh Singh Attorneys, brother to Sundeep, indicating that he is the one handling the case: “I never instructed Minesh Attorneys to deal with our case. Instead, we requested all the documents in possession of Minesh be sent back to WECO.

Apparently, all this happened after WECO wrote a letter to the Northern Province Law Society to make it clear that they do not want Sundeep of Sundeep Singh and Associates to deal with their files. He is no longer our lawyer. Sundeep was apparently firstly appointed by expelled former president Solomon Mthwalo to deal with the case.

“Since we took over, we felt that it would only be fair to let our own attorneys deal with the matter.” In terminating its contract, WECO stated that the attorney refused to withdraw from the case. He allegedly continued to conduct meeting with its members including their previous president. He allegedly engaged the members in a new case not similar to the previous one.

Mthwalo, who claimed to be Chief of WECO, said his new president is Richard Mashiya. Mthwalo confirmed that they no longer deal with Sundeep after he was struck off he roll. He said they have spent over R2 million paying for new lawyers for the past 17 years:

“All the lawyers we hired did not have knowledge of the land claim case. They were specialised in criminal and divorce cases. Currently we have not approached any attorney to take us up front,” said Mthwalo.
