Panic as box of CVs and attendance register is stolen

Residents who submitted their applications are concerned about their personal information being misused.

The Brakpan Herald last week received information anonymously that a box containing job applications was stolen from the Brakpan Ekurhuleni Customer Care Centre (CCC).

The box contained applications, CVs, copies of applicants’ IDs and matric certificates and other personal information.

Applicants whose CVs were in the stolen box are reportedly concerned about their safety, identity theft and the lax security at the CCC in general.

City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini confirmed an advertisement, a CV-receiving box, and the attendance register were stolen from the public reception area at the CCC.

“In response, the municipality instituted an investigation through the security personnel, and the outcomes of the investigation will be communicated once the investigation is finalised.

“The investigation aims to recover the stolen box and CVs so that people’s personal information is protected.

“In mitigating similar occurrences, the process of re-advertisement has commenced, and the CV box has been placed in a more secure place.”
