Raise funds for breast cancer

The first of many Opskop venue charity benefits will focus on empowering women with breast cancer.

Opskop venue will host a Faith over Fear brunch to raise breast cancer awareness and funds on October 21.
The event will start at 10:00 at the venue on Escombe Street.

The funds raised will go towards Look Good Feel Better (LGFB), an NPO that helps cancer patients keep their mental health and self-esteem through difficult times with pampering and emotional support.

LGFB does more than just breast cancer awareness and helps women with any kind of cancer undergoing a difficult treatment journey. The programme started in 1989 in the USA.

LGFB offers patients two-hour skincare and makeup workshops designed to “assist women in active cancer treatment to address the appearance-related side effects of their treatment,” according to their statement.

Natalie van Coppenhagen will serenade the ladies.

The event will feature two speakers, including cancer survivor Lynette Cilliers and women empowerment speaker Nicci Pretorius. Bianca Birnie will be the MC, and ladies will hear the lovely singing voice of Natalie van Coppenhagen, the event organiser.

“I have a passion for women and the challenges we face today. Although we are raising funds for LGFB, I also want to take the opportunity to make women aware of breast cancer and the support that is in place for those who suffer from it,” Natalie said.

“I am also doing this to remember three women I lost to breast cancer – my grandma, my mom and a dear friend. I was also diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2015, and am proud to say I am now cancer-free through pure grace,” she continued.

Natalie hopes the brunch will be the first of many similar events for the Opskop venue.
