Help your child make a butterfly out of a toilet paper roll

With Spring just around the corner, we have shifted our focus to bright and colourful Spring activities perfect for kids of all ages.

Even though toilet paper roll crafts are not a new concept, they remain one of the most popular crafts on Pinterest, and it’s easy to see why. Toilet paper tube crafts, as they are frequently known, teach children to be less wasteful and to utilise what they already have at home.

Today, we will demonstrate how to help your child make a pretty butterfly from a toilet paper roll.

What you need

  • Toilet Paper Roll
  • Scissors
  • Light green craft paint
  • Foam Paint Brush
  • Coloured Cardboard (blue, pink, and purple)
  • Glue Stick
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Black marker

How to make it

  1. Let your child have fun painting the toilet paper roll using green paint. Allow the roll to dry thoroughly before moving to the next step.
  2. Use child-friendly scissors to help your child cut out the wings from the pink cardboard.
  3. Next, help your child cut out four small circles using blue paper. Put some glue on the circles and sprinkle with glitter.
  4. Glue the wings to the back of the toilet paper roll.
  5. Using purple-coloured paper, cut out the antennas and glue them to the inside of the top of the roll.
  6. Help your child glue little pom poms onto the butterfly and the glitter circles on the wings.
  7. Using the black marker, draw on the eyes and a mouth.
