DIY finger paint: Perfect for toddlers

Today we'll share how to make the easiest homemade finger paint from basic, safe - and even edible - ingredients.

We have come across so many recipes over the years for finger paint and many either stain skin or are unsafe for children. This recipe we’re sharing today is completely safe for babies and toddlers. It also does not stain skin. Best of all, it’s super easy to make!

What you need

  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 6 tbsp granulated white sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Icing colour gels
  • Containers

How to make it

  1. In a medium-sized saucepan add all your ingredients and let your child whisk until combined.
  2. Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly until your mixture thickens.
  3. Turn off your stove and remove it from the heat.
  4. Separate into your containers, one container for each colour your child would like to make.
  5. Using a toothpick, help your child add a very small blob of the icing colour gel and use a spoon to stir until the colour is fully mixed in.
  6. Let mixture stand until cool before use.
