Friends of Suikerbosrand will hold a screening of An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power at Suikerbosrand at 9.30am. This is a follow-on to the 2006 film An Inconvenient Truth and is about former US vice-president Al Gore’s mission to battle climate change. Contact Margaret Bennett (011 969 2818 or 083 667 7519).

Hirsch’s Carnival will host its monthly business networking morning at 8.30am. There is no charge but booking is essential. Contact Chantelle du Plessis (chantelled@hirschs.co.za or 010 822 2050).

• May 19

The East Rand Children’s Haven will host a fund-raising Mad Hatter’s High Tea from 11am to 2pm. Prizes will be given for best hats and best tables. Beaded jewellery items made by the children will be on sale. Contact Natalie Bibbey (083 597 1303) for more information.

The annual Just Wheels Show will be held at Muriel Brand School from 8am. Hundreds of cars will be on display, 4×4 activities, several exhibitions, flea market stalls and entertainment. For more information contact Bart Zaayman (083 390 8589).

Baritone Andries Aldrich and soprano Khumbu Dlamini, accompanied by Marion Pillay on piano, will perform some of the most beautiful opera arias and duets from Turandot, Rusalka, The Magic Flute, Macbeth, La Wally and The Merry Widow. The concert will be held at the NG-kerk Moedergemeente, Victoria Avenue at 3pm. For tickets contact Andries Aldrich (071 141 4938).

Die NG-kerk Brakpan-Oos, wat op die hoek van Lapping- en Boundaryweg geleë is, hou ’n feesmark vanaf 3nm tot 8nm. Heerlike eetgoed soos pannekoek, kerrie-en-rys, poedings, hamburgers en tuisgebak sal te koop wees. Die SANBS sal vanaf 3nm reg wees vir mense wat wil bloed skenk. Auditions for The Sound of Musicals, presented by Noteworthy Events, will take place at the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk (corner Struben and de Mist streets) in Rynfield, Benoni. Should your audition be successful, you will be included in The Sound of Musicals cast. The show will be held at the NG-kerk, Dalpark, on September 8. • Monday

Brakpan residents are invited to join the Nigel Bridge Group. Bridge is played every Monday from 9am to 1pm in the NG-kerk hall on the corner of Rudd and Harries roads, Dunnottar. New members, with or without a partner, are welcome. For more information, contact Sylvia Gallichan (082 756 3223).

• Tuesday

The Brakpan Homecrafts Society meets every first Tuesday of the month at the St Peter’s Anglican Church hall at 10am. New members are welcome. For more information, contact Jane Donker (011 915 2539).

A Narcotics Anonymous meeting for people who have a problem with drugs, or think they may have a problem with drugs, is held every Tuesday at 7.30pm at the St John the Baptist Catholic Church, 74 Queen Avenue.
