Carnival City heats up with sizzling comedy

Hot Masala Comedy is a pulsating cultural comedy experience not to be missed at Carnival City’s Mardi Gras Theatre.

Straight out of Durban comes the deliciously funny Hot Masala Comedy show on March 24, dished up and ready to be served for the first time to local audiences by some of the most sizzling comedy acts in KwaZulu-Natal.

The show features stand-up comics and viral video stars Masood Boomgaard, Bash with Tash and Mo Vawda who collectively have earned millions of views on social media platforms and played to full houses across the country.

Together the trio will take the audience on a hilarious cultural adventure, tapping into their experiences growing up in Indian communities in different parts of Durban, telling side-tickling funny anecdotes about overbearing parents, drunk uncles and downright crazy grandparents.

The show will also be peppered with great gags on everyday stuff like relationships, the economy, politics and social media.

There’s bound to be something for everyone.

Bash with Tash, real name Natashia Portrag, shot to fame in December 2016 when she spontaneously uploaded a comic commentary by herself on Facebook which soared to hundreds of thousands of views.

Subsequent videos only heightened her popularity and now she has legions of fans locally and abroad in places like Australia.

Bash with Tash is best known for her incredible ability to improvise on stage and crowd interaction

Her spontaneity ensures that no two shows are the same and she accredits her success to good work ethic.

“I’m on a journey and not in a competition,” she said.

“A good and humble heart has been the key to my success.

“This is a passion and not simply a job that needs to be done.

“Success can be measured in many forms for me this past year.

“It has been about sold out shows, making people laugh and also changing lives.

“My style of comedy is very different. I am not a scripted comedy and every performance is personalised.”

Fresh from his recent tours of Australia, Dubai and the UK, Durbanite Masood Boomgaard is best known for his unique comedic take on current affairs and trends, tackling a variety of topics from politics and sport to the economy and relationships.

He often uses the stage to reflect on his childhood and experiences growing up in a mixed-race family.

Look out for his spot-on impersonations of the likes of Jacob Zuma and Donald Trump.

Boomgaard has performed with some of the best in the business across the country and has a few solo shows under his belt.

His most recent Joker has been released on DVD and he also recently appeared on Comedy Central.

He recently performed his show African Indian on London’s West End and received rave reviews.

And last but not least, audiences can look forward to the comic stylings of Mo Vawda, widely regarded as one of the hottest up-and-coming acts in SA comedy.

Original and wildly amusing, Vawda draws the funny from his experiences travelling the world as a “Muslim dude” and being married and a young dad.

The show starts at 8pm.
