Update or immediately delete Adobe Flash Player

Adobe has issued a patch for its Flash Player browser plugin containing 36 security updates because hackers crashed a victim’s computer and took control of it.

Security companies have urged internet users to install the latest Adobe Flash Player security update or delete the program completely.  The flaw affected the latest version of Flash across Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome devices.

Security firms believed hackers were already exploiting the vulnerability in various countries and used one of the patches to control someone’s device.

Flash Player is a web browser plug-in that enables video, games, interactives and ads on web pages.

The program has been riddled with security issues for years, with many web developers preferring newer standards such as HTML5. Google recently moved YouTube over to HTML5, so there is no need for Flash to watch YouTube videos.

Adobe released security updates for Adobe Flash Player for Windows, Mac, Linux, and ChromeOS on 16 June. These updates addressed “critical vulnerabilities that could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system”.

The company said: “Adobe is aware of a report that an exploit for CVE-2016-4171 exists in the wild, and is being used in limited, targeted attacks.”
