UPDATE AND MORE PHOTOS: Sixteen injured in R23 crash

Traffic was severely affected as a result of the accident, which took place along the R23, near Geluksdal Road, this morning (Tuesday).

Sixteen people were injured after a minibus taxi overturned.

“Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that the minibus had overturned several times and came to a standstill on its side,” said Santi Steinmann, media liaison officer  for  Netcare 911.

Two critically injured people were airlifted to hospital.

“Upon assessment of all the occupants, they found that four people had sustained critical injuries and 12 people sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious.”

According to Steinmann, the Netcare1 helicopter was activated to airlift two critically injured patients to hospital for the urgent medical care that they required.

“The remaining 12 patients were treated at the scene and transported to various hospitals for further medical care,” she added.

The exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events are still unknown and will remain the subject of a police investigation.
