Weekend of fine dancing

Dance competitions have become major attractions thanks to television shows like Strictly Come Dancing.

But nothing beats the excitement of watching the real thing, and the public have an opportunity to do just that at the Dancer of the Year Competition 2013, to be held at Carnival City this Friday and Saturday (September 20 and 21).

This competition has been running for 28 years and attracts the top dancers from throughout South Africa. Contestants compete in a variety of styles of dance from Hip-Hop to Showdance, Ballroom, Latin American, Freestyle and Slowdance.

On the Friday, performers will focus on the Latin American and Ballroom categories, with Freestyle, Hip-Hop, Showdance and Slowdance taking place on Saturday.

The Dancer of the Year Competition is the highlight of every dancer’s calendar, and Gerhard van Rooyen and Amor Kruger, the current Blackpool Open British World Exhibition champions, will be performing on both nights.
