Rock Raceway pays tribute to #199

Frans van Dyk's friendly smile, humble attitude, positive contributions and quiet determination will remain the trademarks always associated with the black Tigra #199.

The Rock Raceway and national racing fraternity received the news of Frans (FP) van Dyk’s death on January 10 as a result of Covid-19.

The news was met with the greatest of shock, disbelief and sincerity towards his family and friends.

The Springs resident loved his racing, but also thoroughly enjoyed fishing and braaing and will be fondly remembered for sharing the “Kom Ons Braai” challenge with best friend Mauritz Nigrini.

His family and friends knew him as a man who faced many challenges in his life, using these challenges as stepping stones rather than reasons not to achieve his goals and dreams.

The gentle giant, the big man with the smallest of hearts who would never hesitate to assist others, Frans’ friendly smile, humble attitude, positive contributions and quiet determination will remain the trademarks always associated with the black Tigra #199.

Frans lived to achieve his racing dreams by being chosen twice to represent South Africa on an international level – first when SA competed against a UK team and in 2019 as part of the 2.0 liter SA team vs Europe.

Frans van Dyk and one of his heroes, Richard Rawlings from Gas Monkey Garage.

Fellow racers will remember Frans as a tough yet fair competitor on track, a racer who always gave his best and never became bigger than the sport.

Attending a Nascar race in America became a dream come true when Frans not only got to be trackside in Las Vegas in 2019 but also met one of his heroes during this outing – Richard Rawlings, star of Fast N’ Loud and a proprietor of Gas Monkey Garage.

Whilst a deserving memorial service for Frans is not possible, fellow competitors and supporters will be paying tribute to #199 on his Facebook page.

The owner and organisers of all events at The Rock Raceway are obliged to abide by restrictions and regulations enforced by government and authorities in terms of Covid-19 and any form of racing will only resume once deemed safe for all competitors, spectators and officials.

Frans (33) was married to Chevon and cherished his children, Fransie (10) and Clarissa (6).
